TCM theory states that "the Kidney stores essence, and its brilliance manifests in the hair." It emphasizes that kidney essence serves as the material foundation for life activities, nourishing hair follicles through blood and qi circulation. When kidney essence is abundant, hair remains lustrous and strong; when deficient—due to chronic sleep deprivation, excessive fatigue, or prolonged illness—hair loses nourishment, leading to symptoms such as hair loss, graying, and dryness. Modern research further reveals that patients with hair loss often exhibit excessive sebum secretion, which is why androgenetic alopecia is also commonly referred to as seborrheic alopecia.

A research team from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine formulated this blend based on the traditional TCM principle of "Jun, Chen, Zuo, Shi" (Monarch, Minister, Assistant, Guide). The Monarch ingredient is Ellagic Acid, extracted from Raspberry (Fuguzi), which is documented in classical texts such as *Yao Xing Lun* to "treat kidney essence deficiency" and "nourish essence for hair growth." Its primary function is to repair mitochondrial function in hair follicles. The Minister ingredients are Sophora flavescens (Kushen) and Sanguisorba officinalis (Diyu), sourced from *Kushen Tang*. They excel at clearing heat and drying dampness, effectively removing excess scalp oil and pathogenic microbes like Malassezia to create a "clean environment" for hair growth. The Assistant ingredient is Sichuan pepper (Huajiao), which warms and unblocks blood vessels to improve local circulation, ensuring adequate oxygen and nutrient delivery to the follicles.

Innovating with ellagic acid supramolecular technology, the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine research team has increased its solubility by over 120 times. This breakthrough enables precise targeting of hair follicles and efficient accumulation in dermal papilla cells upon topical application, effectively serving as the delivery "messenger" within the formula. Together, these components synergistically achieve the effects of "nourishing the seed, enriching the soil, and clearing the channels": nourishing the hair root, cleansing the scalp environment, and ensuring optimal nutrient delivery—ultimately stimulating new hair growth and giving rise to NanYan XinSi.
